Who can claim tax relief?
If you are a PAYE / PRSI employee and you give more than €250 in a calendar year, we can reclaim the tax paid on your donation(s). This only applies to individual contributions and not to monies raised through sponsorship.

You can make your donation as a once-off lump sum gift (minimum €250 required) or by instalments. For example a standing order of €21 per month over 12 months totals €252, and qualifies for the tax relief scheme. You could even give a few gifts over the course of the year totalling a minimum of €250 to qualify.

If you are a self-assessed tax payer, although we cannot claim tax on your donation, you may make a claim for tax relief when filing your tax return and reduce the cost of making your donation.

Companies donating more than €250 can also claim tax relief by including the claim on the company’s tax return.

How much further can my contribution go?
As an example, a person donating €250 who pays income tax at the rate of 20% attracts a reclaim of €63 from the Revenue Commissioners making the total value of your gift to the Niall Mellon Township Trust €313.

At the higher tax rate of 41% that reclaim is worth €174 for a total gift of €424.

For a company with a tax rate of 12.5%, the after tax cost of making a donation of €250 is €219.
