Countdown to biggest ever exodus of Irish volunteers
From the outset, the Niall Mellon Township Challenge has received
a wide variety of media attention both in Ireland and in South Africa.
In Ireland there have been numerous articles in the following newspapers:
- The Irish Times
- The Sunday Times
- The Sunday Business Post
- Irish Independent
- Sunday World
- The Star
- Evening Herald
Des Cahill, Pat Kenny and Gerry Ryan also broadcast live radio shows from
the township which received a great response from their listenership. RTE
broadcast a documentary : The Millionaire, the Builders and the Shanty Town,
in July 2004 which was filmed during the Builders Week 2003. We see media
attention as a hugely beneficial tool for the charity as it generates
comprehensive awareness amongst the Irish media of this project thus
highlighting the need for assistance in developing countries. It also
brings the project into the public eye thus giving interested Irish
citizens the opportunity to participate in volunteer work.
