Typical November temperatures are above 26°c and this makes outdoor physical work even tougher.
. You need to be realistic about your current state of health
It is one thing to do physical work for an hour in the garden, however it is a different thing to do it solidly all day for seven days in a row. While we want as many people as possible to come on the trip, we don’t want anyone to come who will ultimately not be able to play their part, as each individual who is allocated a place has an important task for the week.
. Work ethic of volunteers
We cannot speak highly enough about the effort and work levels achieved by the volunteers in previous years. However, we have a strict policy of no drinking alcohol on site during the working day. This is both dangerous and disrespectful to the community we are working with. Also, anyone who misses a day’s work due to excessive partying the night before will be sent home on a flight that evening.
The Building Blitz is a serious mission which will dramatically change the lives of our beneficiaries for the better.
That’s not to say that people don’t go out for a few drinks in the evening and enjoy the craic of being with an amazing group of people. The camaraderie and buzz around these trips are phenomenal. However, these trips have only been a success because our targets were achieved and people treated the reason for coming on the trip very seriously.
